Who We Are

Shoreline Automotive is a locally owned mechanic shop serving Porters Lake and communities across the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. We provide reliable automotive service for everyday drivers, families, and local businesses who need honest, dependable vehicle care.

The shop is run by Marie-Helene Ryder and her husband Jamie Ryder, owner of Tree Beard Construction Inc. Together, they built Shoreline Automotive with a simple goal: create a place where people feel comfortable bringing their vehicle and know they’ll get straightforward advice, clear explanations, and quality work.

Marie-Helene manages customer service and operations, ensuring every customer understands what’s happening with their vehicle and what repairs are truly necessary. Jamie brings years of experience running successful local businesses and building community partnerships that strengthen the Eastern Shore.

Supporting Youth Employment and Skills Development

Shoreline Automotive is proud to support the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) Federal Grant, a youth employment initiative led by Employment and Social Development Canada and delivered in partnership by 12 federal departments.

This program helps young people gain real work experience and develop the skills they need to find and maintain quality employment. Programming focuses on youth who may face multiple barriers to employment, including:

  • Education challenges

  • Food and income security

  • Mental health barriers

  • Transportation and housing challenges

  • Health concerns

  • Systemic barriers such as racism and ableism

Since 2019, this successful program has been delivered at The Old School on the Eastern Shore, employing 83 local youth who received employment training and work placements with local businesses and organizations. The program has achieved an 80% success rate, helping participants transition into meaningful employment and career opportunities.

The initiative represents $948,885 in funding over four years, with the next program beginning in September 2025.

At Shoreline Automotive, we are proud to participate by offering hands-on automotive work experience for youth interested in the mechanical trade. Currently, Connor is completing a six-week job placement at our shop, gaining real-world experience working in a professional automotive service environment.

Built for the Local Community

As a locally owned shop, Shoreline Automotive is committed to supporting the Eastern Shore community — not only through reliable automotive service, but also by helping create opportunities for young people to build skills and careers.

Our goal is to be the kind of shop where people feel comfortable bringing their vehicles and where the community knows they will receive honest service and genuine support.
